Floating I am by Willem Lombard

Originally a disused New Zealand Railways bus garage, the Arts Centre was established in 1989 to provide a venue for artists and craftspeople to exhibit and sell their work. Over the years the Centre has grown and developed, overseen by architect Mark Southcombe, into the purpose-built facility it is today.

Each year around 15,000 people visit the Arts Centre to participate in a wide range of workshops and classes, view exhibitions of art, visit the Saturday Craft Market and check out the excellent range of mosaics at Louise Herdman Mosaics. The Centre is also home to the Amitabha Buddhists, the Wanganui Potters’ Society,  SeniorNet and Creative Space Trust.

If you are looking for a venue in the heart of the Whanganui’s Creative Riverfront precinct, the Arts Centre exhibition spaces and Awa Room are fully accessible and available for hire at a very reasonable cost.
